The Observant
A downloadable game for Windows and Android
THE OBSERVANT
On your own in the dark. Just trying to get from A to B. The hush of night is almost deafening. The sensation of being followed persistently lurks in the back of your mind. A quiet snap in the distance booms like a hollow drum. Is anyone there? All you can do is stay on the path ahead and try not to look behind...
The Observant is a first-person virtual reality experience that articulates the sensation of an anxious midnight commute. This Android game is easily accessible by using a Google cardboard VR headset. This was a solo project for my final major project at Brunel University.
This game was created as a Mobile VR game, so the PC version may be harder to control due to the SDK being used. It is recommended to play the game on an Android phone using a Google cardboard VR headset.
PC SETTINGS:
- Download TheObservant-PC.zip
- Navigate to PC Build > The Observant.exe (application)
- Run 'The Observant.exe'.
- Use the 'alt' key and a mouse to move the camera.
- Use the Left Mouse Button to interact with objects.
- The further away the cursor is from the dot in the centre of the screen, the more sensitive the movement is. You can stop the player anytime by looking up.
ANDROID SETTINGS (phone with Google cardboard VR headset)
- Download TheObservant.apk on your Android phone.
- Find the 'IOS Cardboard' app on the home screen.
- It might ask you to trust/install the app
- Place the phone into the headset.
- Use head movements to move the camera.
- Look down at a 20-degree angle to move.
- Use the button at the top right of the headset to
interact with objects.
